Over the past few months I have been using Twitter(and yes, I’ll admit it. . .Pownce too) more and more. During this time I have noticed that people use Twitter for many different things. Some use it casually. . .and some use it. . .not so casually.

The Question

Lots of people turn to twitter when they need help with something. Whether the question be something technical(like how to fix a windows error). . .to something personal(like which flavor of chewing gum to buy).

The Answer

This is of course, in response to a question. There are thousands and thousands of people on the internet that like to help(or don’t mind helping) you out when you need it.

The Pointless

This is anything ranging from ‘I just brushed my teeth’ to ‘I am taking a shower’. There is no real purpose to this type of tweet. . .other than fulfilling your boredom(or someone else’s boredom).

The Content

This type of tweet is normally followed by a URL telling you what the person is reading/looking at/watching. Lots of people like to share the content they find with others and Twitter is a great way to do this.

The Message

This is a personal message/note that you send to a friend/fan of yours. The interesting part about this is that everyone can see the message. They can also reply to you(and your friend) with their comments on the topic at hand. Which adds a hint of complexity to the social network.

The best part is that if you don’t like what someone ‘tweets’(yea I hate that term), then you can remove them(or even block them) and be done with it. Much like Digg. . .Twitter is a self-policing community.

I feel Twitter is the next big social network. . .which will prove that you don’t need all the bell and whistles to satisfy a specific niche.
