Getting brand awareness is one of the best things you can do for your website. With the introduction of widgets and embedded media some businesses learned that getting traffic isn’t what it’s all about. Simply getting someone to read the name of your brand and enjoy the content is all you need to secure future traffic from them.
This alone shows that this is not the route for short term web publishers. If you’re not in it for the long haul then then this is not for you.
The easiest example I can think of is YouTube. YouTube allowed you to embed their content(and mostly all of it) into your website. Now why would YouTube let you take ‘their content’ and not only let you profit from it(since it’s on your website). . .but pay for hosting that content as well. The answer is simple. . .Brand Awareness. Just having that media player embedded into your website(as opposed to break/revver/metacafe) /almost/ guarantees them future traffic.
This makes me think about the RSS ‘Full Feed’ debate. Which I will go into later. . .but some feel as long as their brand is attached to their content, then their job is done. The better question is. . .’Would YouTube be as big as it is now, if they didn’t allow embedded videos?
