I get asked what RSS reader I use a lot. . .so I figured I would layout my RSS setup here.

I use Netvibes as a ‘custom homepage’. I used to use iGoogle. It was with the launch of this service from Google that I first learned about this type of website. For some reason Google promoted their own ‘widgets’ to add. . .so I didn’t really see the full potential of the service. Then I learned I could plug RSS feeds into the tabs. I then made an ‘RSS’ tab and filled it with current websites that I read.

It didn’t take long until I was watching a lot of RSS feeds. I did some organizing and broke up the ‘rss tab’ into multiple tabs. One for Games, Tech, Apple, Bloggers, and so on. I really began to love this way of organizing my RSS feeds.

I then learned about Netvibes and decided to try them out. the only reason why I tried was for the design. I didn’t like the pre-made ‘themes’ that iGoogle provided, and the widgets/tabs were just ugly. While I was using Netvibes I read about how well they handled podcasts. . .so it expanded the use of the website entirely. I never liked using iTunes for my podcasts, and this solved that issue as well.

I setup Netvibes to have 4 columns per page. The 3 columns on the left side I keep for my main feeds at the moment. Those are the feeds I check first. The 1 column to the right I keep collapsed, and only check them if I am bored/have the extra time. Every now and then I rotate some of main feeds with a few on the right side.
