I can’t be the only one that has noticed Kevin Rose getting the Twitter fever like everyone else. Is Kevin turning it’s back on Pownce. . .when Pownce first launched Kevin plugged it quite a few times on Diggnation. . .not so much anymore.
First it was Scoble who was ‘The Twitter Guy’, then Calacanis came along and buzz spread about his ‘MacBook Air’ giveaway. Now Leo and Kevin are battling it out for 2nd place(and possibly 1st place). Go Leo Go! You also have people like Veronica Belmont, Mike Arrington, John Dvorak, iJustine, Alex Albrecht, Cali Lewis, Guy Kawasaki, Chris Pirillo, Amber Mac, Scott Beale, Darren Rowse and Patrick Norton(this list goes on and on) not only have a Twitter account, but actively promote Twitter. . .and their Twitter profiles. I mean, you couldn’t get a better endorsement than that.
Thankfully Kevin hasn’t used this recent ‘Twitter hype’ to squeeze in a reason to plug Pownce everywhere. But I think I heard him say he uses Pownce for media and Twitter for ‘local meet ups’. I do agree that Pownce has Twitter beat when it comes to media. . .but the amount of people using Twitter(compared to Pownce) makes that feature almost pointless.
Maybe Kevin, Leah, and Daniel can wait it out. Twitter will eventually put advertising on the website. Yes the owner says they won’t right now. . .but what happens when they sell(that’s always the goal). In the past when a website adds advertising after the initial launch. . .the viewers tend to get cranky. I doubt they will make them so obnoxious that they drive them to Pownce. . .but anything is possible.
It’s just funny to see Kevin plugging Twitter more and more when he helped launch a direct competitor(essentially).

So this is my blog. This will be the place I go to write up random thoughts about random things. Most of it will deal with the internet or technology. . .since I am a geek. Just don't expect anything too exciting. . .
Regarding the possibility of Twitter incorporating advertising: I’ve looked at the Japanese iteration of Twitter with its ads, and I can honestly say they didn’t offend me.
I’m sufficiently comfortable with the current level of advertising I encounter daily on the internet, from sidebars in websites and blogs to floating boxes and other escapees from my popup filter. I’m becoming immune.
I don’t think using the type of advertising they are in the Japanese version here would have any impact on my use of and appreciate for Twitter…even though I pay more attention to Friendfeed these days.
