Don’t get me wrong. . .I Love VLC Media Player, and have used it for years now. I normally didn’t have too many issues with codec because I used a couple ‘codec packs’ and that solve any issues I ever ran into. There was a recent update to the mighty VLC that was heavily anticipated(at least I thought it was). . .but I must say I am very disappointed.

I want to point out some of the most annoying things I run into while I use VLC(and I do use it 3-4 hours a day).

Fast Forward

I would skip through some of a video by using they keyboard shortcut CTRL/Shift and the Left/Right arrow keys. Now, every now and then I will get into this ’select mode’ or something where doing this will simply scroll through the buttons. This can be fixed by clicking on the video of the player, and then fast forwarding the video. Most of the time I go to VLC with ALT+Tab. . .so this adds an unneeded step.

Full Screen Controls

When I bring the video into Full Screen mode on my 2nd monitor, I get this control panel on my main monitor(behind the taskbar). But if I keep my 2nd monitor connected, but don’t use it, and go Full Screen on my main monitor. Then I see this control panel at the bottom of the screen, on top of the video. . .and it flickers while the video plays!!!

Playlist

The playlist was something that I thought needed improving before but I didn’t think it needed a ‘auto play’ feature. Now when you drop something into the playlist it will automatically start playing it. Personally I would go through and drop stuff in it here and there and then go and play it. Not anymore!

System Tray

When I watch something in full screen and the video ends, it seems like VLC closes. So after watching something it’s natural for me to go and delete it. When I try, I end up seeing this. . .

But it’s no where to be found! Only when I click the ‘unhide’ button on the System Tray, do I see that VLC is actually still running and preventing me from deleting the video.
