Excited About Mirror’s Edge
I first learned about Mirror’s Edge a few months ago. I never was a fan of the FPS genre, but Portal, and now this seems to have pulled me back in. The idea of a FPS that you wasn’t geared toward actual shooting(but running instead). For some reason it reminded me of The Matrix and ever since I saw the first gameplay video I was intrigued.
I watched this weeks 1up Show where they reviewed the full game. I was sad because of their review of the game. They talked about the single player game only being 6 hours long(less, depending on how good you are) and about how the storyline wasn’t as good as it could be. They enjoyed most of the gameplay, but being that this is the first game in the series(there will definitely be more), it shows great promise for future titles.
I checked Wikipedia to find out the release date(the 11th) and read about a demo for the game. I freaked out and immediately turned on the 360 to download it. I played through the demo(and again just now) and I must say that I love the gameplay. There weren’t many parts where you were running from someone(there were only 2 during the demo). Even though there aren’t many spots where you’re running from someone, tension builds as you’re running trying to line up your jumps perfectly.
At first I thought well why would I run the entire time, why not just slow things down. . .make sure it’s lined up, and then go to the next area. For some reason I didn’t want to do that. I would rather do the same section 8 times over and get it right(while running at full speed) instead of doing it slow. I did get sort of annoyed with doing the same part over and over(which was talked about in the 1up review), but it does make the experience better.
They have time trials for online play(if you’ve pre-ordered the game), but I haven’t so I’ll have to wait. I would think that this will be a great feature to add replay value to the game(since it’s so short), but unless you’re perfect at the levels I imagine this will suck for most of us.
