Is The Dark Side Not So Dark?

For some reason or another I was thinking back to the classic Star Wars trilogies and I found something funny.

If Yoda and the Light Side knew something was up with the Anakin Skywalker. . .wouldn’t they want to secure him from the Dark Side. Yoda said he shouldn’t be trained because of the ‘fear inside him’ or whatever. But if they new the potential was there, just the thought of him going to the Dark Side would be enough of a reason to accept and train him.

I mean, why is it Anakin’s fault that the Jedi’s didn’t train him properly?

This got me thinking about the older trilogy too. . .and how Luke went to get trained by Yoda. Just like with Anakin, Yoda didn’t want to train him. It took the begging of Luke and Obi-Wan to convince him. The arrogance of the Jedi’s destroyed them once. . .and it almost did it again.

Luke and Anakin gave up their entire lives to go be trained by the Jedi’s.

I don’t know about you but I would get pissed and go to the Dark Side too!

Kevin Rose Really Did Get Paid

I’m listening to TWiT and Jason Calacanis may have let something slip that he shouldn’t have. Now I don’t hold this against Kevin at all. . .I actually applaud it. I mean that’s the American Dream, no? Not only is he doing something he loves, but he created it. It has exploded so huge that now it allows him to supposedly take $1 million.

I knew something was up when Kevin started getting all these new toys.

Oh god why hasn’t there been an update to the Firefox plugin Adsense Notifier.

I can understand if the developer has quit working on it. . .but then why hasn’t someone else picked it up. Or at least forked the project and started something new. This is getting ridiculous now!

21 Years in the Making

In 1987 one of the best Vampire movies of my generation was released, The Lost Boys. Now we get a sequel that follows in the same footsteps as just about every other horror movie sequel. One so bad that it goes straight to DVD, not even making into the theaters.

It’s bad enough that they bring in Corey Feldman and give him some sort of creativity with his character. The first few scenes Corey tries to be some raspy, low-talking cowboy. Then it doesn’t even take 20-30 minutes until he breaks whatever character he’s trying to be, and goes back to normal Corey.

Then again at least they’re smart and try to keep the nostalgia throughout the entire movie. From Corey Feldman to Corey Haim and even mixing in the original ‘theme song’, they knew their audience was hardcore fans of the original. Sadly I just don’t think that is enough.

Pownce Is Fair

So with the recent issues I have been having on Pownce, I contacted their support(Ariel) and asked for a refund since they said they couldn’t fix the problem.

I thought I would get some canned message about how it’s against company policy to do so and yada yada. Surprisingly they didn’t. She said it wasn’t going to be an issue and within an hour I saw the money back in my PayPal account.

Well done Pownce. . .well done(and thanks).

App Store Website

First I created InstallerApps.com. . .then I created SMBThemes.com. Now with the launch of the App Store, AppStoreApps.com is now live. The official launch isn’t until tomorrow but I have been doing a lot of work this weekend and like to get people’s comments or suggestions before.

I will be doing the same thing I do at InstallerApps.com there. . .except it will be for the official applications. Reviews will be for free applications/games as well as paid/premium applications/games.

I’m using the Skribit widget to find out which apps or games the visitors want to see the most. I am also accepting PayPal donations to help compensate for some of costs(until the ad revenue can pay for it all).

Pownce - The Anti Social Network

I thought it was weird when I first joined Pownce my account ended up being banned. I was ‘being social’. . .and then all of a sudden my account ended up getting suspended. I contact Pownce support, and Ariel tells me it’s because I ‘added too many people as a friend’.

Fast forward to now and I have been having stability issues with Pownce. . .like I said here. I figured I would contact support again and at least get a reason why I was unable to access my Pro Pownce Account. Ariel replies again with. . .

The issue of white pages seems to be caused by the fact that you’re a fan of an unusually large amount of people (you’re a fan of 6227 people and friends with 4171 people).

. . .and that to fix this issue I had to. . .

login (in which you might encounter the white screen) and then navigate to “http://pownce.com/four20/fan_of” and cancel some of your friend requests.

It’s kind of funny to learn Pownce doesn’t want people to be social on their networks.

Recently I wrote when I quit using Pownce because of instability issues. So I thought I would give Plurk another shot. Now I didn’t really use Plurk when it first launched. . .but I did sign up to get the name ‘Four20′.

I looked over the service that first time and thought ‘what is this place’. An image of a dog without a head. . .what. . .why?

So the time line adds a nice kick to the entire experience. I like that the ‘plurks’ are threaded, so you can have a full conversation with your friends.

My favorite feature is the auto-refresh or the auto-update that the time line does. I was looking for something like that with Twitter(web app) and even tried the greasemonkey script but it messed the replies up. The ‘new plurks’ and ‘new responses’ that pops up in the bottom left are useful. . .though I could see a ‘new replies on plurks i’ve participated in’ being more useful.

The Karma system is interesting. . .but I think it could turn in a way to game the site. . .which could devalue the entire website.
